Manchester United have been put on red alert as Real Madrid is continually assessing the current situation of Lisandro Martinez and Los Blancos is looking to build on the defender by signing the Argentine next summer
The 26-year-old centre-back signed for Manchester United in 2022 from Ajax and has been a regular at Old Trafford, playing 78 times across all competitions and is well known for his ability to bring the ball out from the back.
Martinez was signed by United until June 2027 but with an option of an extension that will see him playing for United until June 2028, Martinez is an important player under new head coach Ruben Amorim.
But according to TBR Football, Real Madrid is interested in his current performance as well as his market availability for the team’s improvement of the defense.
The Spanish giants are reported to be in the market for a ball-playing center-back and Martinez ticks that box perfectly. The physical attributes include technical ability and the ability to keep the ball, both of which would well fit Real Madrid’s play.
Real Madrid Is Interested In Lisandro Martinez
Nevertheless, Madrid should not expect to acquire the defender cheaply because he plays a critical role in Amorim’s developing system of play.
After the arrival of Amorim, Manchester United adopted a back-three formation, and Martinez has been playing the left-sided defender.
Despite being Amorim’s preferred option at the centre-back, he has suffered some injuries and suspensions to leave him with a pitiful tally of only two league games played.
Most recently, Martinez was part a team that lost at home to Nottingham Forest, as the team succumbed to a 3-2 loss, his performance has been questionable of late as well.
Real Madrid moves follows speculations that United are also in the market for more defenders amid suggestions that the Old Trafford side wants a reshuffle of the team’s defensive department with Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite included in their list of targets.
In case the Spanish club puts a good bid for Martinez, then United may be forced to sell, should the Spanish club table a substantial offer for Martinez and will prompt United to buy another player who fits well into Amorim’s tactical formation.
Martinez had qualities depicted in his first season at United, but major mishaps with injuries and inconsistent playing styles continue to pose questions about his consistency.
If Real Madrid’s interest is well intensified, accompanied by a good offer in terms of financial consideration, then the journey of the Argentine from Old Trafford to the Bernabéu will become a reality.
For now, both clubs will be having to practically focus on their backside while waiting for the coming of the summer transfer window.
