Manchester United have also been willing to let go of Lisandro Martinez to Real Madrid after two and a half years at the Club.
Lisandro Martinez signed for United for £57m from Ajax in 2022 and has been a revelation to many critics who doubted his abilities in the Premier League given his height. Measuring only 5 ft 9 inches, people started contemplating about how he could endure physical English football.
Martinez faced a challenging first season, but he showed remarkable resilience and swiftly found his place in Erik ten Hag’s team.
His determination paid off, as he contributed significantly to the United squad that lifted the Carabao Cup. Playing 45 matches in his debut season, he not only showcased his talent but also captured the hearts of the fans, becoming a beloved figure among supporters.
However, he struggled with fitness problems last season, and he managed only 11 appearances in the English Premier League.
Said to be suffering from chronic match fitness issues, the 26-year-old has once again established himself in the middle of the United defence.
Lisandro Martinez Is On Real Madrid’s Radar
However, some of the sources of talkSPORT state that Martinez is not considered to be invulnerable in Manchester United’s board.
This comes at a time when the club is believed to be open to offers from other big names, such as Marcus Rashford. Martinez’s sale may not be an end in itself but could well be aimed at garnering funds for more recruits in the next transfer windows.
Martinez is closely watched by Real Madrid, the current holders of the Champions League trophy. As for the primary sight for a new right-back, Los Blancos continue to eye Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold; however, other targets have been mentioned, such as United’s Dalot, Tottenham’s Romero and Porro.
However, his recent years have not only provided some really strong performances but the player also attracted criticism as well.
In United’s match against Nottingham Forest, he was criticized after a woeful performance that saw United lose 3-2, and some called him a ‘little boy’.
United will face a tough decision regarding their quality defender, Martinez, especially with Real Madrid making him a key target. A transfer merry-go-round is undoubtedly on the horizon in the coming months.
