Chelsea Is Seriously Considering Sensational Return For England Star Marc Guehi

The Blues are said to have set sights on Marc Guehi as a potential target, especially in case Chalobah is to be brought back to the club.

Given the current squad status, as Glasner of Crystal Palace pointed out, Chelsea has a lot of depth in central defence, so it is hard to see the need for another centre-back.

Nevertheless, this seems to have worked to Guéhi’s disadvantage in that his relatively low profile and availability might have impressed the club.

Marc Guehi, 24, has since grown into a seasoned Premier League defender after joining Crystal Palace from Chelsea in 2021 for £18m and an English international with 18 senior caps.

The Palace’s defender contract only has eighteen months left, and this may lead the Eagles to offer him out to avoid the situation whereby they will lose him cheaply in the future.

Hitherto, Chelsea will continue to have a sell-on clause in the original transfer, which may help decrease the cost of his return.

Newcastle United may have been in serious negotiations to sign Guéhi with Palace last summer, but the deal never went through.

The stumbling block for the deal was the reported asking price of £70 million, although, Chelsea could be allowed to negotiate the fee if they come calling for him during this current transfer window.

Owing to Guéhi’s experience, he has been in more than 100 Premier League fixtures since his transfer to Selhurst Park. However, whether the Blues will go ahead with this move or concentrate on bringing Chalobah back remains to be anybody’s guess.

The choice could depend on the overall plan of strengthening the army and adding redundant players in the centre of defence. Looking at the evolution of the transfer window, Marc Guehi is likely to become a centrepiece of Chelsea’s activities.
