Liverpool are said to be eyeing Premier League star Marc Guehi with an offer of up to £65 million as they anticipate the loss of Virgil van Dijk.
The 33-year-old Dutch centre-back is currently out of contract with the club, and his current deal lasts until June 2025.
However, Van Dijk is not the only key talent who is unsure of his future at Anfield. Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also to end their contracts at the end of the 2024/25 season.
While Alexander-Arnold, 26, has not commented publicly on his future despite being linked with Real Madrid, Salah, 32, has been more willing to address his contractual standings dilemma, stating that he is no nearer to agreeing a new deal after Liverpool thrashed West Ham 5-0 at the London Stadium.
As for Van Dijk, Liverpool has become his club of choice, the player himself stated it in an interview with The Times, saying that he loves the club.
Although the defender managed to catch the attention of many after his performance, he has not even signed a new contract to stay in the team.
If it does not happen by January 2025, then, like Salah and Alexander-Arnold, he will be able to discuss contracts with foreign clubs.
Liverpool To Replace Van Dijk With Marc Guehi
And if Van Dijk is sold, Liverpool seems to have lined up someone who can come in as his replacement, like Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace and the England team.
Fichajes reported that Liverpool are willing to pay £65 million for the 24-year-old, who has been a regular figure for Palace this season.
Even so, the bid that is out might be lower than what Palace is willing to let go for; the club turned down Newcastle United’s bids of up to £60 million last summer.
Guehi, contracted at Selhurst Park till 2026, has also been linked to Manchester United. Whether either Liverpool or United will forward official bids in the January transfer window or whether Palace will consider a mid-season sale is still unknown.
