Ronald Araujo Commits Future to Barcelona with New Long-Term Contract Till 2031

Following weeks of transfer rumours, Barça officially bound Ronald Araujo to new long-term terms until 2031.
The Uruguayan defender, alongside his role as vice-captain, has signed a six-year deal to remain at Barcelona through 2031, thus silencing transfer speculation about his future.
The January transfer window saw frequent reports suggesting Araújo would move from Barcelona to Serie A or the Premier League clubs.
Barcelona secured the long-term future of the defender when manager Hansi Flick promised he would stay at the club and then signed him to a six-year deal and his release clause stays a mystery.
The Uruguayan defender faced criticism about his spot in Barcelona’s team because of the long duration he spent injured during his participation in the 2024 Copa América.
Barcelona Renews Ronald Araujo Till 2031
He spent 230 days out of action until making his comeback for Barça on January 4, following his original final match in August. As Íñigo Martínez recovered during his bench time Barcelona witnessed youngster Pau Cubarsí develop into a potential starting force in the first squad.
Since Martínez’s injury, Araújo secured the starting centre-back position in Barcelona’s last four fixtures, playing next to Cubarsí.
Ronald Araujo arrived at Barcelona in 2018 and first appeared with the junior squad before starting his senior debut in 2019.
Since his promotion to regular first-team rosters during the 2020-21 season, he has started 155 matches and scored eight goals, which contributed to Barcelona’s victories in both La Liga and the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup tournaments.
This season Araújo secured the position of Barcelona’s second captain under the leadership of goalkeeper, Ter Stegen.
The Barça executive team extended the contracts of both Araújo and academy talent Gerard Martín. Section of his summer expiration became a thing of the past after he extended his contract to 2028 with the club.
With Ansu Fati returning from injury, Barca will seek to move closer to their La Liga competitors as they face Valencia at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys this weekend.
