Ligue 1 French club AS Monaco reportedly have their eyes set on signing Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi during the current January transfer period.
Reports have it that AS Monaco shows interest in Nigerian national Wilfred Ndidi by considering a loan agreement containing a future purchase option.
Since joining Leicester City in 2017, the club’s midfield structure has been built around Wilfred Ndidi, who has appeared in 289 matches and scored 18 goals while making 21 assists.
When he reached his prime form the 28-year-old became noted as one of English football’s best defensive midfielders to the extent that Manchester United seriously considered acquiring him. Recent injuries, alongside inconsistent performance, have limited the progress of the midfielder.
Leicester’s successful operations heavily depend on Ndidi staying on the pitch. The current Premier League campaign saw Ndidi start 15 matches before he suffered an injury in December that kept him out of action for eight subsequent games.
His rehabilitative efforts have attracted Qatar sports club Monaco who see him as a valuable asset outside of England’s football leagues.
Monaco Is Keen On Wilfred Ndidi
Multiple sources, including Fabrizio Romano, confirmed Monaco’s desire to acquire Wilfred Ndidi during this transfer window; however, Leicester City have shown firm resistance toward the deal.
Foxes hold strong to their appraisal of their premier midfield safeguard while postponing any offers to release the player during this campaign. The remaining duration of two years on his contract extends up Leicester City to complete directive positioning during any negotiation.
Ndidi stands at €18 million on Transfermarkt but Leicester City plans to raise his price should Monaco decide to pursue a deal. The Nigerian face might accept an overseas transfer from Leicester despite their apparent firmness toward retaining him but could sway management toward an attractive foreign deal.
The transfer window advancement will reveal Monaco’s ability to match Leicester City’s asking price while persuading Ndidi to make a Ligue 1 transfer from England.
