Real Sociedad talented midfielder Martin Zubimendi is rumored to be eyeing a departure from the Basque side during the next summer transfer period.

Interest in the Spanish player has grown to two, as two Premier League giants namely, Manchester City and Liverpool, due to their desire to add the Spain international to their midfield squad.

Liverpool had shown interest in Zubimendi before the previous summer but failed to sign the player. The player saw it wise to stay at Real Sociedad where he has developed into an instrumental player.

After Spain’s EURO 2024 victorious campaign, where he was in the starting line – up, and even featured in the final as a substitute to Rodri, his profile has since risen.

There is information indicating Zubimendi as wanting a transfer and at £50 million in his current contract, he would be a steal in today’s transfer market.

There seems to be news that Real Sociedad may be preparing a new contract as a way of removing the clause and again, this has not happened as yet. This has put Liverpool, alongside Manchester City back into contention to renew their chase for the talented midfielder.

Arsenal and Manchester United Previously Eyed Martin Zubimendi

Both Arsenal and Manchester United have shown previous interest in the player who has scored one goal and created two more and also completed 15 La Liga matches this current season.

He has played 207 games for Real Sociedad netting a total of 9 goals and providing 9 assists, and underlined himself in the eight Champions League games this season.

Nevertheless, the past season in the 2024-25 was far from impressive for Real Sociedad finished ninth in La Liga, which did not affect the performance of Zubimendi.

In October he stated he had no remorse in turning down Liverpool last summer, before stating his loyalty to his present club.

Of course I don’t regret it,

“I can’t think that way after four or five games at the start of the season.

“I made my decision from within, I thought it was the best thing to do, the results don’t affect me. I see potential in this team, you just have to watch us train. I’m excited about having a good season.

However, the promise of a move to a large club in the Premier League next year may well be to hard to turn down especially when one considers that he is of prime age.

Thus, for Liverpool and Manchester City, Zubimendi means not only a ready-made star, but also a guy with great latent performance.

The next few months will be important to Real Sociedad as the club stands the test of having to keep one of their best assets since the interest is likely to increase.
