Manchester United have reportedly made an official move to sign Porto’s rising star Victor Froholdt, according to new reports from Spain.

The 19-year-old midfielder, described as one of Europe’s brightest prospects, has also caught the attention of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

United’s offer value has not been disclosed, but Froholdt’s contract includes a release clause of around £74 million.

The Denmark international only joined Porto this summer from FC Copenhagen for £16 million and has quickly made an impression with four goal contributions in eight league matches.

The Red Devils see Froholdt as a long-term investment as they continue rebuilding after a disappointing 2024/25 campaign. Erik ten Hag’s side finished 15th in the Premier League last season and failed to win any silverware, prompting major changes within the squad.

Hjulmand Pursuit Depends on One Key Factor

Alongside their move for Froholdt, Manchester United remain interested in Sporting Lisbon captain Morten Hjulmand. The 25-year-old Danish midfielder has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford for over a year, with Ten Hag identifying him as a player who could bring control and composure to midfield.

However, the pursuit of Hjulmand could depend on whether United’s proposed move for Froholdt is successful. Reports suggest United would not sign both players, choosing one to strengthen the midfield.

There is also strong competition for Hjulmand’s signature. Juventus are reportedly preparing their own offer, which could complicate United’s chances. The midfielder’s familiarity with Sporting boss Ruben Amorim — who has also been linked with the United job in the past — adds another twist to the story.

For now, Manchester United’s focus appears to be on securing Froholdt, whose performances in Portugal have made him one of the most sought-after young midfielders in Europe. If Porto resist or demand the full release clause, United may have to turn their attention back to Hjulmand.

The coming transfer window could therefore prove crucial for Ten Hag and his rebuilding project, as the club continues its push to find the right balance of youth, quality, and experience to return to the top.
