Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United are reportedly targeting AS Roma’s midfield dynamo Manu Kone as part of their 2026 midfield overhaul.
According to United In Focus, the Red Devils are preparing a potential move for the 24-year-old French international, who has become one of Serie A’s standout performers since joining Roma from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2024.
Kone has been a revelation in Italy, starting every league game this season and playing every minute under manager Daniele De Rossi. His energy, composure, and ability to break lines have made him indispensable to Roma’s midfield.
Despite having a contract that runs until 2029, the growing interest from Europe’s elite — including United — could test the Italian side’s resolve.
A Natural Fit for Amorim’s System
United’s midfield reshuffle appears inevitable, with Casemiro expected to depart next summer and Manuel Ugarte struggling to impress.

Amorim is determined to bring in a more dynamic, press-resistant midfielder, and Kone’s profile fits perfectly. His aggressive ball-winning style and quick transitions mirror the tactical approach Amorim has implemented at Old Trafford.
Manu Kone could also represent a cost-effective signing compared to top targets like Adam Wharton or Carlos Baleba, with reports suggesting Roma might consider offers below £50 million.
United’s hierarchy view him as a player capable of adapting quickly to the Premier League and providing balance in midfield.
While United will continue to assess Wharton and Baleba, Kone’s availability, age, and tactical compatibility make him a serious contender to replace Ugarte in Amorim’s evolving setup.
If negotiations progress, the Frenchman could be one of the first major pieces of United’s next-phase rebuild heading into 2026.
