Marco Verratti Transfer News

Manchester United are weighing up a January swoop for Marco Verratti, according to reports in Spain.

The Al-Duhail midfielder, who only left Paris Saint-Germain last year, has emerged as a surprise candidate to bolster Erik ten Hag’s squad midway through the season.

Midfield concerns remain

The summer saw United strengthen their attack with the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

While those additions added depth and variety to the frontline, many supporters and former players voiced frustration that the club did not secure a defensive-minded midfielder. The need for greater balance in midfield remains a pressing concern.

Brighton’s Carlos Baleba is considered a long-term target, with United expected to pursue him in the next couple of windows.

However, reports suggest that the club’s plan is to sign at least two midfielders, with Verratti’s name now being linked as a short-term solution.

Verratti’s appeal

Spanish outlet Fichajes claims United see Verratti as the “unexpected footballer” who could arrive at Old Trafford this winter.

The Italian’s desire to return to European football is said to be a factor in the discussions, and United view him as an ideal fit alongside their younger talents.

Verratti’s ball distribution, tactical intelligence, and wealth of international experience would instantly add composure to a midfield that has struggled for control in big games. For a squad seeking stability and leadership, his presence could be invaluable.

Wider transfer links

Alongside midfield reinforcements, Manchester United continue to be linked with a blockbuster move for Harry Kane.

Former Liverpool and Germany midfielder Didi Hamann has tipped the England captain to return to the Premier League next summer — and suggested United could be his destination.
