Andre Onana Transfer News

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is at the centre of late transfer drama after the club agreed terms with Trabzonspor for a season-long loan — but the final word rests with the player.

United’s Goalkeeping Shuffle

Ruben Amorim now has four goalkeepers in his squad following the deadline day signing of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.

Lammens is set to compete with Altay Bayındır for the number one role, leaving Onana surplus to requirements. Veteran Tom Heaton, who recently signed a one-year extension, provides additional depth.

Onana has endured a frustrating start to the campaign, making just one appearance — the shock Carabao Cup defeat to League Two side Grimsby Town. His position has clearly weakened, and the club see a loan move as the best solution.

Trabzonspor Deal Agreed — But Player Hesitant

Transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that United and Trabzonspor have reached a full agreement on a loan until the end of the 2025-26 season. However, the goalkeeper himself has yet to give the green light.

“What is needed now is the green light from the player. Onana has to decide his future soon,” Romano explained. “If he wants to stay in Europe and continue at Manchester United competing for his spot, or move to Turkey and be a regular starter at Trabzonspor, the decision is his.”

Time Running Out

The Turkish transfer window remains open until September 12, meaning Trabzonspor still have time to secure the deal.

The Athletic reports Onana is open to the move, but no final decision has been made. Trabzonspor are keen to add him before their upcoming clash with rivals Fenerbahce.

For Onana, the choice is clear-cut: stay at Old Trafford to battle with Bayındır and Lammens in what looks like a diminished role, or move to Turkey for guaranteed minutes in a starting role.

Either way, his next move will likely define the trajectory of his career after what has been a turbulent spell at Manchester United.
