Manchester United Intensify Push for Nuno Mendes as PSG Contract Talks Stall

Manchester United are said to be in negotiations for PSG’s young left-back Nuno Mendes after he recently announced he is contemplating a new deal with his current side.

RMC Sport reports that Mendes has not signed a new long-term deal for PSG which expires in 18 months. The French champions are keen to keep him at their side, but failure to agree on the salary has paved the way for other teams.

The 21-year-old PSG star has been one of the outstanding performers, but due to the failure of PSG to meet his demands, the possible transfer could be imminent.

Sources indicate that United have had a bid for him but there is no evidence that PSG is willing to let go of their star player during this current transfer period.

Currently, it seems that PSG is only interested in trying to retain the services of Mendes. However, any uncertainty on his part may complicate matters.

Will Nuno Mendes Reunite With Ruben Amorim?

For Manchester United, Mendes indeed will be a significant improvement in the left-back position. This season, injuries to both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have forced United to depend on Diogo Dalot, who has not been up to the task in that position.

They have been poor even when Malacia returned to the starting lineup and Shaw’s continued absence has not helped at all.

Mendes would handle United’s defensive problems while adding versatility on offence as well as defence.

The Portuguese star targeted has delivered 90% accuracy in passing of the balls in the Ligue 1 season; he has been involved in 6 duels and ensured five recoveries per game. Due to his strong tackling, line clearance and also participation in attack by making overlap runs he is a total player.

Mendes used to work with Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim when the former was a player at Sporting Lisbon, and rumours suggest the latter wants him back.

Still, PSG strongly believes they can continue negotiating to keep him on and would likely sell if Nuno Mendes sends an official transfer request. If United managed to tempt him into joining the club, then Mendes could go a long way to shaping up the team.
