Manchester United have rumoured interest in Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres as the possible replacement for Marcus Rashford following the transfer reported by Caught Offside.
Rashford, a product of the United’s youth system and promoted to the senior team in 2016, has not been regular in form in recent times.
United is likely to sell the 27-year-old, who had a good season in the 2022/23 season, to freshen up the team.
At the moment, the likes of Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona have shown interest in striker Rashford, Manchester United’s management is willing to let him join the foreign teams on the condition that they will pay at least £58m for him.
Viktor Gyokeres Is Man United Target
As they think about backup forwards, Viktor Gyokeres has often been seen as the one that could easily take Rashford’s place.
The Swede, who has been performing magnificently for Sporting CP, scored 43 goals and made 15 assists in 50 games in the previous season, which helped the team win Liga Portugal.
This season, he has maintained the same delightful form; he has scored 29 goals in every 23 matches in all competitions.
Sporting is said to be willing to offload Gyökeres next summer for at least £49m even though he has a £83m release clause.
He has a gentleman’s agreement with the club to have him move to a team that will develop his career and here is a talent that Manchester United needs.
The same applies to other targets on United’s list, including Dusan Vlahovic, Victor Osimhen, Kenan Yildiz, and Evan Ferguson.
But Gyókeres demonstrated his goal-scoring prowess and his chemistry with Ruben Amorim at Sporting might be exactly what United needs to strengthen and deepen its attacking force.
While Rashford remains in an uneven future status, Gyökeres is perfecting his goal-scoring touch; thus, a move to Old Trafford will be a great leap towards United’s new-look attack. Only time will tell if the Premier League big guns can nail down the Swedish forward as part of their revamp.
