Manchester City are preparing to challenge Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of Sporting midfielder Morten Hjulmand, according to Fichajes.

Pep Guardiola views the Swedish international as a potential long-term replacement for Bernardo Silva, whose future at the Etihad remains uncertain.

Hjulmand has been one of the standout performers under Ruben Amorim since joining Sporting in 2023.

His blend of physicality, tactical awareness, and progressive passing has made him one of Europe’s most sought-after defensive midfielders. Guardiola is reportedly ready to sanction a £52 million bid to bring him to Manchester.

United have tracked Hjulmand for months, with Amorim’s connection to the player further fuelling speculation. However, City’s entry into the race could complicate matters.
