Liverpool’s record-breaking summer of spending may be over, but planning for the next stage of their rebuild is already underway. According to reports, the Reds are lining up Michael Olise as a potential heir to Mohamed Salah, with a move possible within the next 12 months.
Big summer, bigger decisions ahead
Arne Slot oversaw a staggering £450m outlay during his first transfer window in charge, with Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong among the high-profile arrivals.
Offloading the likes of Darwin Núñez and Luis Díaz recouped around £200m, helping to balance the books slightly.
While such extravagant spending is unlikely to be repeated in the next few windows, Liverpool know that Salah’s eventual exit remains their biggest long-term challenge.
The Egyptian signed fresh terms in April, keeping him at Anfield until 2027, but at 33 years old, succession planning is now a priority.
Olise emerges as a leading candidate
The Daily Mail claims that Michael Olise, now at Bayern Munich following his switch from Crystal Palace, is one of Liverpool’s prime targets.
The 23-year-old has settled seamlessly into life in Germany, scoring four goals in all competitions already this season and showing the kind of creativity and flair that could one day soften Salah’s departure.
Olise reportedly has a release clause that can be activated in 2026, but Liverpool are said to be monitoring developments closely, with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain also in the mix.
Bayern Munich’s attacking depth could dictate his availability sooner rather than later.
With Harry Kane continuing his prolific form, and Nicolas Jackson arriving from Chelsea on a deal that includes an obligation to buy, there is a feeling in Germany that either Olise or Kane could be sold next year.
What it would mean for Liverpool
Olise’s profile makes him a natural fit for Liverpool’s evolving front line. Still young, technically gifted, and proven in the Premier League, he offers both immediate quality and long-term upside.
For Salah, whose unmatched consistency has carried Liverpool through much of the last decade, finding a replacement with the ability to score and create at the highest level is non-negotiable.
If Liverpool do move for Olise, it would mark the continuation of their new-look strategy: blending established stars with younger talents capable of defining the club’s next era.
