Manchester City particularly, is said to be increasing its pursuit to strengthen its midfield in the next January transfer window with Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle United as a potential target.

This hunt is partly due to the fact that City have missed key midfielder, Rodri due to an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury that he got in September.

Guimarães, 27, has been a key player for the Newcastle team ever since his transfer from Lyon demonstrating admirable technique and spirit. He has performed at his best, which has drawn the attention of several clubs including Manchester City.

There are talks that Newcastle can further experiment City’s patience with a big bid with Matheus Nunes as part of the deal, who has not been consistent with his performance since joining from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Rodri’s absence has been felt in Manchester City’s midfield more than in any other position in the team. Catalan tactician Pep Guardiola has also stated that there has been struggle to find a player like Rodri, he pointed out that this season has been about a process and not an individual solution.

Rodri has said that he is confident that he will be fit to play again prior to the end of the current season campaign and hopes to feature in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup to be played in June and July.

Man City Has Other Options Aside From Bruno Guimaraes

However, besides Guimarães, Manchester City is said to be interested in other midfielders, such as Martín Zubimendi of Real Sociedad.

Various publications have tried to link Zubimendi with Premier League clubs, and there are confident suggestions that Premier League side Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal are willing to pay £60 million release clause for his transfer.

Manchester City has a serious problem both in the sense of continuing to compete effectively without Rodri and in the need for signing a mid-tier midfielder before the transfer window in January.

This is evident by the recent bid for Guimarães to underline the club’s intention to expand the squad and match the challenges posed by the toughest Premier League.
