Girona Eyes Another Barcelona Player: Ansu Fati On January Radar

While the Catalan club, Girona is reportedly negotiating a €10 million deal to bring back García, who impressed on loan at Montilivi last season, they are also eyeing another Barcelona talent: forward Ansu Fati.

As per journalist Miguel Rico, Girona is likely to make a move for Fati, the 22-year-old youth product of La Masia who has failed to replicate his earlier form and match fitness this season.

Ansu Fati suffers from injuries, and the lack of playing time follows a disappointing season for him at Camp Nou. While the forward has said that he wants to remain at the club and defensively fight for his spot, it is still uncertain what will become of him at Barcelona.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has signalled an openness to player departures this month as the club operates under the 1:1 financial rule.

Ansu Fati Has Been Struggling With Fitness

It is this flexibility that could open up new opportunities for signing, to make, for example, bids for such players as Fati is likely to be attractive.

Ansu’s agent Jorge Mendes has, however, recently come out to speak about the situation with the player, he affirmed that Barcelona is the final decision maker in this instance.

‘These are questions for Barça.’ They know better the plans they have and what the coach thinks,” Mendes remarked.

Sevilla has also been linked to Barcelona’s no. 10 jersey, but the allegations can be marred by their own FFP constraints. Girona might bring more drama into the race if they have something tempting to bring to the table for the young forward.

It is, therefore, the spot that Girona will probably boost its interest with both García and Fati, and the January transfer could, therefore, prove to be a crossroads for the two talents in Barcelona’s production line.

Fati’s decision depends on whether he starts a new chapter or stays at Camp Nou to regain his form, which will be closely watched.
