Erik Ten Hag’s reign at Manchester United has come to an end as he has been fired by the Manchester United hierarchy today being the 28 of October 2024, just a day after Manchester United lost 2-1 to West Ham on match day 9 in the English premier league.

Assistant coach and former Manchester United striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy has also been appointed on an interim basis with immediate effect and takes over from the sacked Dutch tactician.

Erik Ten Hag’s sacking by the Manchester United hierarchy has been long over due, as the Man United board showed and exhibited great patience as regards Erik Ten Hag’s situation cause a lot of Man Utd fans and supporter have expected Ten Hag’s sacking earlier before now.

Where Did Erik Ten Hag Get It Wrong At Manchester United ?

Erik Ten Hag’s FA cup win for Manchester United last season wasn’t enough for the Manchester United board to spare him the axe, obviously the FA cup which he won for Manchester United was obviously not enough to help him keep his job, a team need to win consistently to be able to compete, especially in a league like English premier league.

Erik Ten Hag got almost every player he needed at Manchester United which means he was given almost everything he needed to succeed as a manager but sadly that wasn’t enough to take Manchester United to heights that every Man Utd supporter was hoping to see Manchester United at.

Many would also wonder what went wrong and where Ten Hag got it wrong at Manchester United, especially with the fact that he did brilliantly well at his former club of Ajax in the Netherlands with a seemingly smaller team, but could not replicate that same success he had at Ajax in Manchester United with more money and more players at his disposal.

Could It Be The Rifts He Had With Players Like Ronaldo And Jadon Sancho ?

One might say if Ronaldo was not sold, and he was still a Manchester United player, things might not have turned out so bad as it did for Manchester United to the extent that Ten finally got the sack.

Erik Ten Hag had a well publicised issue with former Manchester United player Cristiano Ronaldo which ultimately led to Ronaldo been sold, apart from issues with Ronaldo, Ten Hag also was caught up in issues with Man United player Jadon Sancho who is currently on loan at Chelsea, issues which led to Sancho going back to his former club of Borrussia Dortmund on a season long loan.

One could ultimately say that his relationship with some of his players played a role in the drop in morale of the players and at old Trafford in general. Ruud Van Nistelrooy will be looking to salvage the situation at United probably till the end of the current season, we will be on the look out to see how the situation changes at old Trafford.
