According to a Spanish news outlet, Barcelona is now plotting an audacious swoop for Englishman United striker Marcus Rashford.
He has been asked to leave Old Trafford during the transfer window after limited playing time under the new manager, Ruben Amorim, and Barcelona is now seeing this as an opportunity.
According to the Spanish source Sport, Barcelona’s sporting director Deco considers Rashford as the viable option.
However, what the Catalan giants have to face is not unlimited funds; though they have been thinking about making the necessary salary space by offering players in the likes of Eric Garcia, Ronald Araújo, or Ansu Fati.
Rashford is said to be up for a new challenge after being left out of Manchester United’s last six matches in all competitions.
Marcus Rashford Wants To Leave Manchester United
At the beginning of this month, Rashford shared his eagerness for change by saying,
“I think I am ready for something new and the next steps.”
In United’s last match, Rashford was an unused substitute in the 2-0 defeat against Newcastle and his future remains unknown. Manager Ruben Amorim denied knowledge of the allegations that the move was meant to punish him, insisting that it was a strategic one.
Barcelona’s interest may cause the existing negotiations between Rashford and AC Milan, which, according to some news, has been near a deal for an initial loan basis.
Barcelona will only be able to complete this transfer if they can finance it within the constraints of the newly implemented salary cap in La Liga.
Rashford’s case is interesting as more clubs enter the January transfer window. Amorim discussed the club’s transfer business in a news conference but did not disclose whether Rashford was included in United’s match against Arsenal.
The next few weeks will decide Rashford’s future, with Barcelona now in the race making it potentially one of the big transfers of the window.
