Jonathan David

It is reported by Mundo Deportivo that Barcelona are in a competition with Arsenal and Manchester United to sign Lille forward Jonathan David.

He is a long-time target of the Catalan giants and is being given proper consideration to be the next possible replacement for Lewandowski.

As to internal debates at Barcelona, they cannot rule out whether David’s physique is suitable for the club’s elaborate tactics.

The name of Jonathan David is still associated with Barcelona, but the club is taking a sensible approach. The player has good speed and the ability to make good use of space, but doubts remain as to whether the player would fit in with Barcelona’s style of play.

The team’s tactics revolves around controlling matches through midfield dominance. While this approach might not fully capitalize on David’s strengths, it could spare him from facing the tightly organized defenses of La Liga’s lower-ranked teams.

Although David identified with Barcelona in the past, the matter has not moved to contract negotiations with Lille or the footballer. The club is at the moment occupied with other tasks such as trying to tie Lewandowski to a new deal through 2026 contract.

This extension might postpone the plans of Barcelona to negotiate for a new forward while Arsenal and Manchester united will be having the chance to secure the deal for David.

Jonathan David Is Also On Arsenal’s and Man United’s Radar

The interest Arsenal has is because they are looking for bodies upfront to strengthen their attack so as to remain relevant for the Premier League title challenge.

At the same time, Manchester United is also keeping tabs on David, for them not only do they need a replacement since they too have had their fair share of inconsistency in the final third.

As both clubs approach the player, there is cutthroat competition in which Barcelona is likely to be rivalled by bids which can raise the price and the turnaround time for the player.

David has one year left on his current deal at Lille and this puts Lille in a dilemma to sell him at the end of the season so as not to lose him on a free transfer.

This rising interest from top clubs puts Barcelona in a fix. If they intend to sign David they should be aggressive in the ensuing months lest they see him moving to any other Premier league team.
