Aston Villa are preparing to offer Morgan Rogers a new deal as they look to secure the midfielder’s long-term future, according to reports.
The 23-year-old has become a key figure in Unai Emery’s plans, and the club are keen to reward his progress while fending off interest from Premier League rivals.
Both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring Rogers and could tempt him with the promise of Champions League football.
Villa, however, want to convince the player that his best path lies in the West Midlands, where he has already established himself as an important member of the squad.
The club rejected approaches for Rogers during the summer, despite questions surrounding their position with Premier League financial regulations.
Earlier reports suggested Villa valued him at around £80 million in an effort to ward off suitors. Rogers is contracted at Villa Park until 2030 after penning an extension last November, but the hierarchy are ready to improve his terms once again to shut down speculation.
Form Concerns Amid Contract Talks
The decision to push for another renewal comes at a challenging time for Rogers on the pitch. The midfielder is enduring his toughest spell in a Villa shirt, having failed to register a goal or assist so far this season.
His form has coincided with a difficult run for the team, who are without a win in five league games, collecting three draws, two defeats and only one goal scored.
Villa’s European campaign has offered some relief after John McGinn’s strike secured a 1-0 victory over Bologna in their opening Europa League fixture.
Yet Rogers’ individual display drew criticism. On his European debut, he lost possession six times, completed only 10 of 24 passes, and won just four of 13 ground duels.
His struggles were highlighted when sarcastic cheers echoed around Villa Park as he completed a simple late pass.
Despite the dip in form, Emery and the club remain convinced of Rogers’ long-term potential. By moving quickly to extend his contract, Villa hope to ease any doubts and show faith in a player they believe can be central to their project for years to come.
