Nico Williams To Arsenal? With the January transfer window now well underway Arsenal supporters are right to contemplate as to whether their club will successfully secure any new signings during the current transfer window.
Manager Mikel Arteta insisted that if Arsenal signs new players, they should be capable of becoming features in the starting eleven, but at the same time, he spoke cautiously, indicating that the club might not sign any player during the transfer period.
Araujo To Arsenal Is Complicated
Sport revealed that in the next few days, Arsenal is planning to launch a bid for the Barcelona defender Ronald Araújo.
However, Arsenal, the North London club is not expected to deliver Barcelona’s asking price of 70-80 million euros, which is 58.7- 67.1 million pounds.
Araújo, who wants to move away from the Catalan side, has garnered interest from other clubs such as Juventus.
The Uruguayan’s representatives are believed to be on the lookout for clubs, and Juventus are thought to have been looking at increasing their bid of €35 million (£29.4m) for the player up to €50 million (£42m) for the 25-year-old.
Arsenal Is On Nico Williams Radar
Apart from the chase for Araújo, Arsenal is also interested in signing Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams. The Spanish international, who has a €60 million (£50.4 million) buyout clause in his contract, has drawn Arteta’s eyes towards him, who is believed to be a fan of the 21-year-old.
To make matters worse, while Nico Williams has been linked with a move to Barcelona this January, it seems impossible given the current financial situation.
While Williams himself does not openly demand a transfer and wants to stay with the Athletic Bilbao first team, Bilbao is not going to sell the player for anything other than the amount of his release clause.
It appears that a transfer deal is unlikely to happen this window, particularly considering the winger’s salary demands. However, Arsenal’s interest in signing the player indicates that they are prepared to pursue better player acquisitions in the future.
As things are now, though, it looks like the Gunners are readying themselves for a quiet January where the focus will be on value and the bigger picture, rather than on snap decisions.
