Raheem Sterling insists he wants to play more for Arsenal this season despite not being the first choice for the team after joining from Chelsea late in that transfer window.
The Englishman signed from the Blues on the final day of the transfer window but has been limited to a few appearances under the management of Mikel Arteta, information that has led fans to anticipate an early end to his loan deal in the forthcoming January transfer window.
It is reported on the Evening Standard website, though, that Sterling is not planning on shortening his stay at the Emirates. Arteta is also cited in the report about the fact that the 30-year-old is hungry to play, calling Sterling ‘desperate to play’.
Raheem Sterling faces a similar kind of situation as he was at Chelsea in his last days at the club, which saw him fall in the team hierarchy.
Once regarded as one of the best wingers in Europe during a glorious tenure with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, Sterling has regressed in recent seasons.
While he might not reach the same speed and acceleration as before, his experience and football brain are a great plus.
Will Raheem Sterling Find His Way Back To Arteta’s Team?
The big question that has arisen now is if Sterling still has what it takes to provide a boost to Arteta’s team. Arsenal’s congested fixture list should make chances available as the season goes on.
Coming up with a busy schedule with domestic and European fixtures, Arteta will have no option but to shuffle his squad, A chance Sterling could capitalize.
The Evening Standard also claims Sterling has adapted well to the Arsenal dressing room, with Arteta commending him for his contributions away from the field.
However, even if he has not been in the selection of the starting XI team often, the example and the organizational expertise which came with being a serial winner at Liverpool and City may be exactly what an Arsenal team still in transition requires.
His management and coaching skills might be as vital both on and off the football field as his talents as a footballer.
At the moment however, it seems both Sterling and Arsenal are willing to see the deal go through the initial stages of the loan move. Still at 30 years of age, Sterling will hope to show this season that he still is one of the best talents in the English topflight.
