Anderlecht could be about to part ways with young centre-back Jan-Carlo Simic, after Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad tabled a stunning €20m offer for the 20-year-old, according to HLN.
A massive profit on a quick turnaround
Simic only joined Anderlecht last summer from AC Milan for €3m, with the Italian giants inserting a 20% sell-on clause.
Even factoring in Milan’s cut, the Belgian side stand to make a huge profit on a player who has shown flashes of promise but not yet the consistency of a defender valued at €20m.
The Serbian youth international has made 53 appearances for Anderlecht, scoring four goals.
While he has featured in four matches this season, only two have been starts, suggesting he has not been an automatic first-choice option.
Anderlecht already covered defensively With Jan-Carlo Simic
With the club already bringing in Mihajlo Ilic from Bologna on loan, Anderlecht appear to have anticipated defensive reinforcement. Ilic spent last season at Partizan Belgrade and, while untested in Serie A, is expected to add depth to the backline.
Why the deal makes sense
For Anderlecht, the timing is decisive. Having missed out on European competition this season, the financial boost from Al Ittihad’s €20m bid could be invaluable.
Simic remains young and may well develop further, but from the Mauves’ perspective, the offer is too good to refuse.
As for Al Ittihad, the signing would underline the Saudi Pro League’s commitment to investing in young European talent, not just established stars, as they continue to reshape their squads for the long term.
