Long time Arsenal target and Spanish international midfielder Mikel Merino has finally made the long awaited transfer move from his former club of Real Sociedad to the London Emirates club, in a deal worth €38.5 million (£32m/$43m).

Mikel Merino who’s signing has for long  been anticipated by fans of Arsenal football club can now breath a long sigh of relief as they can now be at ease as they finally land the very talented and experienced midfielder, after successfully snatching defender Ricardo Calafiori from Bologna, it is fair to say that Arsenal are really looking to strengthen their squad.

Before making his big move to the Emirates club, it is worthy of note to know that Mikel Merino as plied his trade with some of Europes top football clubs, and has also won a couple of trophies to his name.

Mikel Merino started his footballing career with Osasuna, before moving to Germany to play for Borussia Dortmund, he has also played for New Castle United, before moving back Spain to play for Real Sociedad, which means he has formally had English Premiership football experience.

Mikel Merino is coming into the Arsenal squad with lots of experience which he has gathered from playing in different leagues, and he is expected to add more strength to the Arsenal midfield this season, and hopefully with his presence, Arsenal might be able to lift the premier league which Manchester city has narrowly snatched from them for two seasons in a row.

Even though Manchester city has not made any new significant signing this new season except for their former German midfielder Gundogan who made the switch back to the Etihad stadium after just one season at Barcelona, most likely to cover up for captain Kevin De Bruyne who has always been prone to injury in recent times,

Manchester city is still a big threat to Arsenal even without any big signing, and most likely the only team capable of stopping them again for the third time from lifting the English Premiership title this season, so it isn’t out of place for Arsenal to take steps to add more quality to their squad.

Let’s be on the look out on how many more signings Arsenal is going to pull into the Emirates stadium before the transfer window closes, and also watch out to see if it makes any difference as regards their Premier League chances this season.
