Manuel Ugarte Transfer News

Manchester United’s midfield rebuild continues to face growing tension. Despite heavy investment last summer, the balance between structure and freedom still feels unsettled under Rubén Amorim.

His disciplined, positional system has limited the effectiveness of players like Manuel Ugarte, whose arrival once promised defensive strength but has since failed to deliver consistent impact.

According to Turkish journalist Erol Evcen, Galatasaray have placed Ugarte high on their January transfer list.

The Turkish champions want renewed energy in midfield, and the move could benefit both sides. United need funds and wage flexibility to reopen talks for Adam Wharton, while Galatasaray seek an aggressive, box-to-box enforcer to strengthen their title push.

Amorim’s 3-4-3 shape doesn’t suit Ugarte’s natural style, and United are also monitoring Brighton’s Carlos Baleba as a potential replacement.

Why a sale makes sense for Manchester United

Ugarte’s struggles come down to tactical mismatch rather than lack of talent. Amorim’s game demands control and short, precise passing — areas where Ugarte often looks constrained.

His strength lies in winning duels and disrupting attacks, but the current setup traps him in a predictable, static role. When United lose possession, he’s frequently left exposed, forced to cover large spaces alone.

Casemiro’s continued presence adds further competition, reducing Ugarte’s minutes and confidence. With his market value dropping, United’s best move may be to sell while interest remains strong. A €40 million fee would be fair for both sides. If Galatasaray prefer a loan, United could attach a mandatory buy clause of the same value.

Okan Buruk’s system in Turkey — based on instinct and high pressing — could help revive Ugarte’s natural rhythm. The Uruguayan thrives when given freedom to hunt the ball and dictate tempo through intensity rather than positioning.

For United, this deal would clear space for a more progressive midfielder and create the financial flexibility needed to strengthen elsewhere.

A move to Galatasaray could mark a turning point for Ugarte’s career — and a timely reset for United’s evolving midfield project.
