Bruno Guimaraes Transfer News

Manchester City’s hopes of landing Newcastle United stars Bruno Guimaraes and Valentino Livramento have suffered a serious setback, with reports suggesting the Magpies are pushing hard to secure both players on new long-term contracts.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle are determined to protect their key assets as part of a broader plan to solidify the core of Eddie Howe’s team.

The Tyneside club has already opened discussions aimed at extending the stays of Guimaraes and Livramento, both of whom are attracting significant interest from across Europe.

City have been monitoring the pair for months, viewing them as potential additions to Pep Guardiola’s evolving squad.

However, Newcastle’s swift action has complicated those plans, signalling their intent to resist any approaches from the Premier League champions.

Bruno Guimaraes remains key to Newcastle’s project

Bruno Guimaraes, who netted a dramatic injury-time winner against Fulham, continues to be the heartbeat of Newcastle’s midfield.

Despite being under contract until 2028, the club wants to reward him with a new improved deal that reflects his importance to the project and fends off outside interest.

New sporting director Ross Wilson is said to be personally overseeing the negotiations.

Sources close to the situation suggest both parties are open to an extension, which would effectively shut the door on Manchester City’s pursuit of the Brazilian international.

Livramento also in line for new deal

Alongside Guimaraes, Newcastle are also eager to secure Valentino Livramento’s long-term future.

The young full-back has impressed since his arrival and remains highly regarded by Guardiola, who has kept close tabs on his progress since his Southampton days.

However, Newcastle see Livramento as a central figure in their next phase of development, and are prepared to offer fresh terms to reflect his growing importance.

Newcastle strengthen on and off the pitch

After a mixed start to the season, back-to-back wins against Benfica and Fulham have restored confidence at St. James’ Park. Eddie Howe and the board are now doubling down on efforts to maintain stability both on and off the field.

The decision to prioritise contract renewals highlights Newcastle’s ambition to build sustainably rather than sell key players for profit. For Manchester City, it represents a clear message — the Magpies are no longer an easy hunting ground for Europe’s elite.
