Since joining Atletico from Manchester City in the summer of 2024, the Argentine has been nothing short of impressive.

He has scored 36 goals in 68 appearances across all competitions, becoming one of Atleti’s most reliable finishers.

Yet despite his strong form, the club has failed to turn his goals into silverware, enduring a trophyless 2024–25 campaign and making a slow start to the current season.

According to Sport, Alvarez has made it clear that he wants to win titles with Atletico. He expects at least one trophy this season, and failure to achieve that could prompt him to push for a move.

The 24-year-old’s ambition is understandable, especially considering Atletico’s heavy investment—over €300 million since last summer, including €95 million spent to sign Alvarez himself.

Despite flashes of brilliance, including a stunning 5-2 win over Real Madrid earlier this year, Simeone’s men already trail Los Blancos by eight points in La Liga and have lost two of their first three Champions League matches. The pressure is mounting.

Even if Alvarez decides to leave, Atletico hold the upper hand financially. Barcelona’s ongoing financial struggles make it unlikely they could meet the €100 million-plus asking price. However, Liverpool, who are also keeping tabs on the player, could emerge as serious contenders.

For now, Alvarez remains committed to Atletico’s cause—but if the season ends without silverware, a high-profile summer move could be inevitable.
