Lucien Agoume Transfer News

Arsenal have emerged as the leading contenders to sign Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume during the upcoming January transfer window, according to reports from Spain.

The Gunners are said to have already made initial enquiries for the Frenchman, who has been one of the standout performers in La Liga this season.

Following the summer departures of Thomas Partey and Jorginho, Arsenal reshaped their midfield by signing Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad and Christian Norgaard from Brentford.

However, Mikel Arteta is reportedly keen to further strengthen the squad with another young, dynamic midfielder, and Agoume has quickly risen to the top of their shortlist.

Sevilla open to a major sale

Sevilla are believed to be planning a major squad rebuild, and Agoume has been identified as one of the players who could be sold to raise funds.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2024–25, making 35 league appearances and earning widespread praise for his composure, energy, and ball-winning ability.

So far this term, he has continued that form, contributing one goal and one assist from seven league outings while excelling in both central and defensive midfield roles.

His statistics — averaging four recoveries, two tackles, and two clearances per game — underline his consistency and impact in the heart of Sevilla’s midfield.

A long-term fit for Arsenal’s project

Agoume’s playing style has drawn comparisons to N’Golo Kante due to his relentless work rate and positional intelligence.

For Arsenal, he represents a long-term investment who could develop alongside Zubimendi and Declan Rice, ensuring balance and depth across midfield.

Norgaard, who joined on a short-term deal until 2027, has already expressed his desire to return to Brondby later in his career. That opens a clear pathway for Agoume to establish himself as a regular fixture at the Emirates in the coming years.

Potential bargain deal on the cards

Financially, a move for Agoume could also make sense. His contract reportedly includes a £35 million release clause, but Sevilla’s current financial difficulties mean they might be willing to negotiate.

Sources in Spain suggest an offer in the region of £25 million could be enough to tempt the Andalusian side into selling.

If Arsenal do move decisively in January, they could land one of La Liga’s most promising midfielders for a reasonable price — and in doing so, add another piece to Mikel Arteta’s evolving puzzle as the Gunners continue their pursuit of Premier League glory.
