Harry Maguire looks set to leave Manchester United at the end of the season, with The Mirror reporting that the England defender is attracting serious interest from Saudi Arabian sides Al-Nassr and Al-Ettifaq.
The 31-year-old’s contract expires in June, and United are reportedly unwilling to offer him fresh terms as they look to reshape their defensive core.
Contract Clarity and Saudi Interest
United triggered a 12-month extension in Maguire’s deal last summer to protect his market value, but the move appears to have only delayed an inevitable departure.
The former club captain has already hinted that talks regarding his future will soon take place, saying earlier in the campaign, “Last year, the clause was in their hands, so there was no option for me there… This year, obviously I’m up at the end of the year.”
While Maguire remains diplomatic about his plans, sources close to the player suggest he is open to a move abroad — particularly given the lucrative nature of the offers on the table.

The Saudi Pro League, which continues to lure high-profile European names, sees Maguire as a major target ahead of next summer. A potential reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr would only add intrigue to the story.
Financial Logic and Emotional Farewell
From United’s perspective, allowing Maguire to walk away for free represents a financial hit, especially given his £80 million transfer fee from Leicester City in 2019 — still a world record for a defender.
However, his hefty wages and limited role make an extension difficult to justify. Maguire has slipped down the pecking order behind Lisandro Martínez, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelöf, and even the emergence of academy prospect Willy Kambwala has restricted his minutes.
As The Mirror notes, “the Red Devils aren’t expected to offer fresh terms as they look to the future.” This line underlines the club’s stance: Maguire’s era at Old Trafford is nearing its conclusion.
Dressing Room Legacy
Despite the criticism that often followed him, Maguire’s resilience has earned respect inside the dressing room. He carried the captain’s armband through turbulent times and never publicly wavered under scrutiny.
While his England place now appears uncertain under Thomas Tuchel’s new regime, his professionalism remains unquestioned.
A move to Saudi Arabia could offer him one last major payday and a chance to play without the intense spotlight that has followed him in England.
United’s Defensive Reset
Manchester United’s defensive rebuild is underway, and Maguire’s departure feels like a natural step in that transition.
With younger, more mobile defenders on the club’s radar, and the pursuit of long-term stability at the back, parting ways with the veteran centre-back appears to suit all parties.
Maguire’s story at Old Trafford is nearing its end — not with bitterness, but with a quiet sense of closure.
After six years, a leadership stint, and plenty of scrutiny, he seems ready for a new chapter — and Saudi Arabia could be the perfect stage for it.
