Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in signing Brentford defender Nathan Collins, with reports suggesting that the north London club could revisit their pursuit of the Irish centre-back next summer.
The 24-year-old was on Spurs’ radar during the previous transfer window, but Brentford’s reluctance to sell meant no formal bid materialised. Given his growing importance to the Bees, a January move has been deemed highly unlikely.
Brentford determined to keep their captain
Collins, who joined Brentford from Wolves in 2023, has quickly established himself as a leader within the squad and was recently handed the captain’s armband.
His defensive consistency and composure have made him one of the Premier League’s most reliable young defenders.
Brentford are understood to have no intention of losing him mid-season, particularly as they aim to maintain stability under manager Thomas Frank.

Speaking to Football Insider, journalist Pete O’Rourke said: “They don’t want to lose Nathan Collins. There was interest in the summer from Tottenham, and Liverpool were mentioned as well. If he continues to impress for Brentford and shows his leadership qualities as captain, I’m sure there’ll be clubs monitoring the situation and maybe in the summertime there could be further interest.”
Spurs see Tottenham continue to monitor Brentford captain Nathan Collins as a long-term fit
Tottenham’s interest stems largely from manager Thomas Frank’s familiarity with the player. Having coached Collins at Brentford, Frank knows his tactical discipline and ability to fit seamlessly into his defensive structure.
With Spurs expected to reinforce their backline in the next transfer window, Collins is viewed as a natural fit — capable of playing in both a back four and a back three. His composure on the ball, aerial presence, and leadership make him a strong candidate to complement Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.
Future battle likely
Liverpool also remain admirers of Collins, though Tottenham are currently seen as the more likely destination should Brentford decide to cash in.
For now, Brentford are standing firm, but if Collins continues his impressive form through the season, interest from top Premier League sides is only expected to intensify — setting up a potential transfer battle next summer.
