Diego Gómez Transfer News

Manchester United entered the summer market with a clear objective: strengthen the squad in key areas after Ruben Amorim’s first season at Old Trafford highlighted a lack of goals.

The club moved decisively, bringing in five new faces to reshape the team’s balance.

The attacking department was the main priority, with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko all added to boost firepower.

Each brings a different dimension to United’s frontline, offering Amorim more options and variety compared to last season.

Reinforcements Beyond the Forward Line

While the spotlight has largely been on the attacking arrivals, United also made important moves elsewhere.

A deal for young goalkeeper Senne Lammens was completed on deadline day from Royal Antwerp, giving Amorim more depth and competition between the posts.

Another notable addition was Paraguayan left wing-back Diego Leon from Cerro Porteño. At just 18 years old, Leon is seen as one for the future, but his arrival underlines United’s commitment to investing in long-term talent as well as immediate solutions.

Time for Adaptation and Growth

As with any rebuild, patience will be vital. Ineos are prepared to allow every player time to settle, particularly those arriving from abroad.

Amorim, however, hopes that the likes of Cunha and Mbeumo, who already have Premier League experience, can make an instant impact.

The challenge for the new signings will be adapting not only to the league but also to Amorim’s methods. Integrating into the squad’s rhythm will take time, and the coaching staff are mindful that several players are experiencing English football for the first time.

Paraguayan Connection: Gómez Offers His Support

The arrival of Diego Leon has already sparked encouragement from within the Paraguayan football community.

Brighton midfielder Diego Gómez revealed he has been in contact with the youngster since his move to Old Trafford, offering guidance and support as Leon adjusts to life in England.

Speaking to Versus Radio, Gómez praised Leon’s courage for making such a big move at such a young age.

“Imagine coming here at the age of 18, outside your country, miles away from Paraguay,” he said. “I always try to support him because I know how much it hurts to be away from your family and your country. When you come here, it’s strange. You feel a different culture. I always try to talk to him.”

The midfielder added that he hopes to meet Leon soon in person, possibly over lunch, to help him settle more comfortably into his new surroundings.

Leon Yet to Make Senior Debut

Leon’s United journey is still at its earliest stage. He has already trained with Amorim’s squad and was part of the travelling party to London ahead of the weekend fixture, but his competitive minutes so far have been limited to the under-21s.

He featured against Liverpool at youth level last weekend before being substituted at half-time.

With Noussair Mazraoui sidelined through injury, there could be opportunities opening up at wing-back in the coming weeks. However, for now, Leon’s integration is expected to be gradual, ensuring he develops steadily under Amorim’s guidance.
