Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a £39m move for Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo in the January transfer window, according to reports from Spain.
The Gunners have enjoyed a solid start to the campaign, picking up ten points from their first five Premier League matches, including a win over Manchester United and a draw with champions Manchester City.
But despite adding eight new players in the summer, Mikel Arteta is said to be pushing for further reinforcements in the winter market.
Arsenal keen to strengthen forward line
Among the arrivals this summer were Viktor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke, giving Arteta greater depth in attack.
However, with Madueke sidelined for up to eight weeks after a knee injury against Manchester City, and uncertainty surrounding the long-term futures of Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, the club are once again exploring options.
Kubo has emerged as a leading candidate. The 24-year-old Japan international has been consistently linked with a move away from Sociedad, and his ability to operate on either wing makes him an attractive target for Arsenal.
His versatility and creativity are viewed as qualities that could provide Arteta with greater balance across the frontline.
Sociedad braced for Arsenal approach
According to reports, Arsenal are preparing a bid in excess of £39m, though Kubo’s release clause is set at £50m.
The north London club are hopeful of negotiating a deal for less than that figure, but Sociedad are reluctant to lose one of their standout performers mid-season.
Kubo himself is believed to be open to a Premier League move, which could work in Arsenal’s favour as they look to test Sociedad’s resolve.
Having already raided the Spanish club for Mikel Merino and Martin Zubimendi in the past, the Gunners will be optimistic about their chances of striking another deal.
Arteta’s push for attacking depth
With Arsenal firmly targeting silverware this season, the January window could prove decisive. Adding a player of Kubo’s calibre would not only provide immediate cover during Madueke’s absence but also inject fresh competition for places in wide areas.
The Gunners’ board are convinced the squad still requires more balance, and Kubo’s potential arrival could be the statement addition that propels Arsenal into the second half of the season with greater momentum.
