Real Madrid are not giving up on the idea of signing William Saliba from Arsenal, with reports confirming that the Spanish giants scouted him during the Gunners’ recent Premier League clash against Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium.
According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta remains determined to secure the French defender’s long-term future, but the looming interest from Los Blancos continues to grow.
Madrid’s centre-back rebuild plans
Saliba is under contract until 2027, and Arsenal have already offered him improved terms. However, Madrid’s push to rebuild their defensive line could put the Gunners under pressure.
Xabi Alonso is planning for life beyond Antonio Rüdiger and David Alaba, both of whom are out of contract at the end of the season.
Los Blancos have reportedly reached a preliminary agreement with Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté, who is also set to be a free agent next summer.
Yet sources close to Madrid suggest Saliba remains their “dream target,” as echoed by Fabrizio Romano.
His commanding presence, composure on the ball and ability to marshal the backline have made him one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe.
Madrid scouts were in attendance at the Emirates during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City last weekend, specifically to watch Saliba. Returning from injury, the 24-year-old played alongside Gabriel Magalhães at the heart of defence and impressed with his solid display.
Saliba has now racked up 138 appearances for Arsenal, scoring seven goals and registering two assists.
While Arsenal’s focus is firmly on winning the Premier League this season, Madrid are equally intent on reinforcing their squad to mount a serious challenge for both LaLiga and the Champions League in 2025/26.
