Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a move to reunite Ruben Amorim with one of his former stars, Francisco Trincao.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes.net, the Red Devils see the Portuguese winger as an “ideal reinforcement” as they search for solutions to their stuttering start under Amorim.
The 25-year-old was one of Amorim’s most trusted players during their time together at Sporting CP, regularly featuring on the right flank in his system.
Interestingly, Trincao has been operating in a more central attacking role this season, and his versatility was on full display when he scored twice in a man-of-the-match performance against Kairat in the Champions League.
Why Amorim wants Francisco Trincao at Old Trafford
The report suggests that Amorim’s close relationship with Trincao could be crucial in persuading him to swap Lisbon for Manchester.
Sporting, however, may be reluctant to lose a player of his influence, though financial pressure could force their hand.
Trincao has delivered consistently since joining Sporting from Barcelona in 2023, racking up 39 goals and 34 assists in 161 appearances across all competitions.
With his contract running down to 2026, the Portuguese club could eventually be compelled to cash in.
The Red Devils’ struggles this season have largely been in central midfield, with creativity and stability lacking, but Amorim is reportedly eager to bolster the attack with a familiar face who he knows he can rely on.
Trincao has often been described as “absolutely magic” by coaches who worked with him, including Rui Santos, who credited Amorim for believing in the player and guiding his development.
For United, the potential signing could inject much-needed spark into their frontline, while also giving Amorim a player he already trusts to help turn the tide at Old Trafford.
