Leeds United are set to reignite their interest in Harry Wilson after receiving renewed encouragement that a January deal with Fulham could finally be on the cards.
The Wales international was on the verge of joining Daniel Farke’s side on deadline day, only for Fulham to abruptly withdraw permission for him to undergo a medical, collapsing the move at the last moment.
Why Harry Wilson could leave Fulham
Wilson, now 28, finds himself in a precarious situation at Craven Cottage with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
The deadline-day arrivals of Kevin and Samuel Chukwueze have added direct competition in his favoured right-wing role, casting further doubt over his long-term future.
For the player, consistent game time is essential. With Wales pushing for a spot at the 2026 World Cup, Wilson knows regular minutes will be crucial to maintaining form and fitness.
Journalist Pete O’Rourke summed it up on the Inside Track podcast:
“For Harry Wilson, if Wales are to qualify for the World Cup next summer, he won’t want to be kicking his heels on the bench at Fulham. He’ll be looking to play regularly, and if that opportunity was to arise at Leeds United or elsewhere, it is something he might be interested in.”
Leeds’ current situation under Daniel Farke
Leeds United have endured a slow start to the season, collecting just four points from their first four Premier League matches and sitting 16th in the table.
They have not secured a victory since their opening-day triumph over Everton, with goals and creativity proving difficult to come by.
Manager Daniel Farke was left frustrated after missing out on Wilson in the summer.
The German coach had specifically targeted an inverted winger who could also contribute with set-pieces — qualities that Wilson brings in abundance.
While Farke chose not to publicly criticise the board for failing to get the deal over the line, he did underline his principles of openness and transparency in recruitment, a clear nod to his disappointment.
What happens next
Fulham’s stance appears to have softened in recent weeks, and January could present Leeds with the chance to finally secure a player Farke has long admired.
For Wilson, a move to Elland Road would offer the chance of regular Premier League minutes and a pivotal role in a team desperate to add attacking flair.
With his contract winding down and Wales’ World Cup hopes hanging in the balance, the January window may well represent a crossroads in Harry Wilson’s career.
