Harry Maguire Transfer News

Harry Maguire’s Manchester United career could be winding down, with reports suggesting that two clubs from the Saudi Pro League have approached the defender about a move.

Maguire’s mixed Old Trafford spell

Since arriving in 2019 for a then-record £80m fee for a defender, Maguire has endured a turbulent spell at United. Handed the captain’s armband by Ole Gunnar Solskjær, he later lost that responsibility under Erik ten Hag and has struggled to cement himself as a guaranteed starter.

West Ham tried to prise him away last summer, and interest from both the Premier League and Serie A resurfaced in the most recent transfer window. United rejected those approaches, and Maguire looked set to remain at Old Trafford for another season.

Saudi interest

The Sun reports that two Saudi clubs have now tested the waters, offering the chance for Maguire to join a growing list of high-profile stars in the Middle East. With the Saudi transfer window still open until September 23, deals remain possible even after Europe’s deadlines passed.

However, while Maguire is said to finally be open to an Old Trafford exit, any move would likely come next summer rather than immediately.

Contract situation

The 32-year-old has just one year left on his current United deal. He has reiterated that he intends to see it out, while leaving the door open to an extension if the club decides to keep him.

Last season, Maguire made 27 appearances and scored once, but remains firmly behind Lisandro Martínez, Raphaël Varane and others in the pecking order. His omission from Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad underlines how far his stock has fallen.

What’s next?

For now, Maguire looks set to battle for minutes under Ruben Amorim, but the prospect of a final lucrative move abroad looms. A Saudi switch in 2025 could provide both a financial windfall and a new challenge, while also ending a chapter at United that never truly fulfilled its early promise.
