The football transfer window is a period when football clubs are at their busiest i must say, because it comes with heavy monetary budget. This is a period when football clubs try to beef up their squads ahead of the next football season by purchasing new players, while they sell the ones they no longer need. The 2024 summer transfer window saw football clubs having a combined total spend of  £1.9 billion.

The transfer window sees football clubs spending huge amounts of money to acquire football players to beef up their squad. And in this article we will be looking at the “top 5 clubs who spent the most money in the 2024 transfer window” let’s get right into it.

Top 5 clubs who spent the most money in the 2024 transfer window

 

(1) Chelsea – £219.9m

Chelsea has always been king of spending big money whenever the transfer window is declared open, right from the times of former Chelsea owner, billionaire Roman Abramovic, Chelsea seems to be a club that derives pleasure in spending big bucks on players, and they still retain the number one position on this list with a total spend of £219.9m, even though they were unable to land their dream signing Victor Osimhen.

Brighton – £194.7m

Brighton comes in at number two of the top 5 clubs who spent the most money in the 2024 transfer window. Brighton spent a total of £194.7m in strengthening their squad ahead of the new season, as it looks like they are determined to compete for silverware this new season.

(3) Manchester United – £180.7m

The red devils of Man Utd come in at number 3 of the top 5 clubs who spent the most money in the 2024 transfer window, just below Brighton. Manchester United made a few significant signings in key areas of their squad, like the addition of the 22 years old Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna, who already got straight into work by netting his first goal in his first match in a Manchester United jersey.

(4) Athletico Madrid – £155.8m

Spanish football giant Athletico Madrid have taken the number 4 spot on our list of the top 5 clubs who spent the most money in the 2024 transfer window. Athletico Madrid recently purchased Argentine striker Julian Alvarez from premier league champions Manchester city for a whooping £82m, so it would be safe to say a large chunk of Athletico Madrid’s £155.8m budget went into acquiring Julian Alvarez from Man city.

Aston villa – £148.4m

Aston Villa who will be playing champions league football this new season definitely had every reason to splurge on new players. Aston Villa takes the number 5 spot on our list of the top 5 clubs who spent the most money in the 2024 transfer window. Aston Villa’s total spend of £148.4m was spent on bringing in the likes of Amadou Onana from Everton and other significant players who will be of importance to the club in their champions league competition.
