To strengthen their defence, Juventus signed Renato Veiga from Chelsea on a temporary loan deal from Portugal.
At 21, Veiga signed with Chelsea for €14 million from FC Basel last summer but his limited Premier League and Conference League action prompted his move to Juventus on loan through the next season.
Since Veiga’s potential at Chelsea is limited this season Juventus secured a temporary deal to bring him to Juve.
According to sources in Italian media and football journalists, Juventus secured Veiga despite strong interest from Borussia Dortmund by outlasting other competing clubs.
The Italian club will pay Chelsea a loan fee between €4.5 million and €5 million for Veiga’s services, while Chelsea will continue to cover his salary and agent fees during the loan period. This contract highlights Juventus’ swift action to address their defensive issues caused by multiple player injuries.
Juventus needs Veiga because their defence remains weaker than before. Because of Gleison Bremer’s season-ending injury and Juan Cabal’s broken contract negotiations, plus Danilo’s contract concerns, Juventus must rely on their only two healthy centre-backs – Federico Gatti and Pierre Kalulu.
Juventus players lead the team in minutes played this season across all competitions. Thiago Motta has gained a new defensive option with the signing of player Veiga.
After starting open negotiations over the weekend Juventus accelerated talks about signing Veiga earlier this week. Juve looks forward to starting Veiga on the team but the official date for his move remains unknown.
Besides Renato Veiga, Juventus has almost completed a loan agreement with Randal Kolo Muani to enhance team depth before the competition’s end.
