Manchester City have been linked with a move for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush, which could turn around City’s season in Germany.
The Manchester City side led by Pep Guardiola, by far the best-performing team in the English top tier last season, has been far from excellent in the current season.
Although City have been impressive in the early matches of this decade, a significant reversal of fortunes before the holidays has placed the team in the sixth spot. Worrying still, they have fired fewer league goals than teams such as Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur.
Due to the challenges faced by the team, Guardiola publicly urged the club’s hierarchy to strengthen the squad as the January transfer window approaches. It appears his appeals have been effective.
According to Fabrice Hawkins from RMC Sport, Manchester City has finalized the details of a deal with Eintracht Frankfurt for Marmoush, who has been one of the top-performing players in the Bundesliga this season.
Omar Marmoush Is So Close To City
This comes after the Athletic published a story that Frankfurt had turned down an initial offer by City but talks were still ongoing. Marmoush has recently been impressive, and he is third in the top-scoring list of the Bundesliga behind Harry Kane of Bayern Munich.
The Egyptian international was signed on a free transfer from Wolfsburg only 18 months ago and Frankfurt now has him listed as worth €80m (£67m).
City’s spending in January alone is above £60m having signed young defenders Reis Vitor and Abdukodir Khusanov. At the same time, veteran full-back Kyle Walker may leave the Etihad, but City will not insist on taking a transfer fee for a 34-year-old player.
As for Marmoush’s future, more likely, they will be revealed in the coming days. The forward will likely not play in Friday’s match against Frankfurt because it is very close to finalizing a deal.
It only took Marmoush an appearance in Frankfurt’s first match after the winter break to remind everyone of his importance to the squad when he scored in a 4-1 win against Freiburg.
If the deal goes on, Marmoush may add some energy and creativity to City’s attack that the team seriously lacks to win the title.
