Victor Osimhen Transfer News

According to Italian Newspaper Il Mattino, Manchester United are one of the potential clubs likely to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in the January transfer window.

The Nigerian forward at the moment is on loan at Galatasaray and has a £62 million release clause that could spur both United and Paris Saint-Germain to launch bids during the winter transfer window.

He was heavily tipped to join the Premier League last summer with Chelsea being the favourite. However, the talks went sour after the player rejected to accept lower wages to reduce expenses.

Victor Osimhen who was loaned to Galatasaray on a season’s loan terms and has been forming a powerful attacking trio with two other Galatasaray players by scoring nine goals and providing five assistances in 12 games.

The Red Devils have recently added Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee to their roster as an added firepower forward along with Rasmus Højlund.

Do Manchester United Really Need Victor Osimhen?

Manchester United’s Zirkzee scored twice against Everton to break the 17-game barren run while Højlund, who has regained form since the arrival of new head coach Ruben Amorim, has scored three goals in the last international break.

While United already has two potential number nine’s in their team already, a big name target such as Osimhen is not the most critical need for them right now.

Moreover, having small amount of cash is an issue in its own that may hinder a deal. United are said to be wary of crossing the Profitability and Sustainability spending caps, meaning that any large transfer would need a similarly mega sale – which is difficult in the middle of the season.

As for Napoli, they are now expecting to use any amount of money arising from Osimhen’s sale to recruit fresh talent, and are eyeing Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior, alongside Patrick Dorgu of Lecce.

Nonetheless, the chances of Osimhen leaving Galatasaray in the middle of the season will not be easy since the middle of the season transfer window is not common.

Another factor that may influence United’s decision is their rivals for the signing of Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres. It would be wiser and more economical to bring back the Swedish forward next summer rather than spend big bucks for Osimhen in the January transfer market.

And for now, while Osimhen continues to hold out as that potential target, a signing at Old Trafford this winter does not seem possible.
