Tottenham Hotspur failed in their bid to land Manchester City winger Savinho in the summer, but there could still be life left in their pursuit.
Spurs saw a £42 million offer rejected, with City valuing the Brazilian closer to £67m.
At the time, it appeared the champions were willing to sell for the right price, but Pep Guardiola is said to have intervened to keep hold of the youngster.
Now, Savinho is on the verge of signing a new deal running until 2031, which would all but crush Tottenham’s hopes of reopening talks in January. Yet, with the World Cup looming next summer, the door is not completely shut.
Savinho has endured a mixed start to the 2025/26 season. After missing City’s opening three matches through injury, he has slowly rejoined the fold.
The 21-year-old scored his first goal of the season in a 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Huddersfield Town and was rewarded with a start in the Premier League against Burnley, where City ran out 5-1 winners.
Will Savinho Renew Or Not
Despite his talent and versatility on either wing, competition is fierce. City already boast Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva, Jeremy Doku and Oscar Bobb, while Omar Marmoush and Rayan Cherki have added further depth.
That has pushed Savinho down the pecking order and limited his opportunities.
Tottenham remain attentive. Ange Postecoglou is keen to add another wide option, and Savinho’s creativity would fit Spurs’ dynamic front line.
For the player himself, regular game time could be crucial. Being a key figure at club level would enhance his chances of making Brazil’s World Cup squad.
According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, if Savinho’s minutes remain limited in the coming months, he could actively push for a January switch to North London. While City are working to tie him down long-term, Tottenham will be ready to move if the situation changes.
