Tottenham manager Thomas Frank was full of praise for Jens Petter Hauge after his performance against Spurs.
Despite Spurs falling behind, the London club managed to fight back with goals from Micky van de Ven and a late own goal from Jostein Gundersen.
But it was Hauge who caught the eye, producing a standout display that left Frank reflecting on past transfer interest.
Frank admits previous attempt to sign Hauge
Speaking to TV2 after the match, Frank revealed he once tried to bring Hauge to Brentford.
“He was fantastic. I actually tried to sign him for Brentford a long time ago. It was good to see him again. I knew he was good and today he was exceptional,” he said.
When asked about the possibility of signing the Norwegian for Spurs, Frank kept the door open without giving too much away. “You never know what the future holds,” he added.
Spurs’ current attacking options
Since replacing Ange Postecoglou, Frank has overseen significant attacking reinforcements at Tottenham. Randal Kolo Muani, Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons all joined in marquee deals, while Mathys Tel’s loan move was also made permanent.
With those additions, Spurs appear well-stocked in advanced positions.
Even so, Hauge’s profile could tempt the club. Following the departure of Son Heung-min in the summer, there is a natural gap on the left side of attack. Hauge’s ability to operate comfortably in that role could make him an attractive option if Spurs look for further depth.
Hauge recalls near move to Brentford
For Hauge, Frank’s praise was familiar. He confirmed that he had previously held talks with the Danish coach during his Brentford days. “I had a Zoom meeting with him. We were close a few years ago. We had a good talk out on the field. He’s a fantastic coach who has done incredibly well. It was close once, but it never quite worked out,” Hauge explained.
Impressive numbers at Bodo/Glimt
The 25-year-old is enjoying an excellent start to the season with Bodo/Glimt. Across five appearances in all competitions, he has already registered three goals and four assists.
That includes a hat-trick of assists in the 5-0 Champions League qualifying win over Sturm Graz in August.
Hauge’s consistency is not new. Last season, he managed nine goals and 10 assists, underlining his creativity and goal threat.
He also featured prominently against Spurs in the Europa League semi-final, playing 90 and 84 minutes across the two legs, though he did not manage to get on the scoresheet.
Spurs links worth monitoring
While Spurs are not desperate for more attacking signings, Frank’s admiration and Hauge’s current form mean the situation could be one to watch. With Premier League experience missing from his career so far, Hauge may welcome the chance to test himself in England.
For now, Spurs’ focus remains on their existing squad, but as Frank said, “you never know what the future holds.”
Do you want me to keep these transfer rewrites neutral and report-like, or should I add a bit more editorial flavour about how realistic the move actually is?
