Harry Kane Transfer News

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank has made no secret of his desire to see England captain Harry Kane return to North London.

The 32-year-old striker, who left Spurs for Bayern Munich in 2023, could be available next summer thanks to a release clause worth £56.7million.

Kane would need to inform Bayern before the end of January if he wishes to trigger the clause.

Former chairman Daniel Levy confirmed Spurs also inserted a buy-back clause in the deal when Kane departed, ensuring they have first refusal should the prolific forward decide to leave Germany.

With Kane now just 47 goals away from Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League record of 260, his return to English football has long felt inevitable.

Harry Kane future in the balance at Bayern

The England skipper has been nothing short of extraordinary in Munich. He has scored 98 goals in 103 games, while also providing 29 assists, helping Bayern to silverware and further cementing his reputation as one of the world’s deadliest strikers.

Yet reports in Germany suggest growing fears that Kane could walk away after just three seasons, well before his four-year deal runs its course.

At present, Premier League giants are stacked with expensive forwards, leaving Tottenham as the most realistic route back for their record goalscorer.

For Frank, the door is wide open.

“There’s a lot of Tottenham fans including myself who would like to see Kane back,” the Spurs boss admitted. “He’s a top player. Personally, I don’t think he will do it right now, he’ll probably stay in Bayern and continue performing well. But he’s welcome. If he wants to join us, he’s more than welcome.”

Wages the major hurdle

Any return would hinge on finances. Kane is believed to earn around £400,000 per week at Bayern—far beyond Spurs’ current wage structure.

However, with the powerful Lewis family now taking a more active role at the club following Levy’s departure, there is an expectation that Tottenham could relax their tight wage-to-revenue ratio.

If that happens, Spurs may finally have the financial muscle to bring their greatest-ever goalscorer home.

For both Kane and Tottenham, the timing will be everything. Bayern remain confident of keeping their talisman, but the lure of a Premier League record—and a hero’s homecoming—may yet prove irresistible.
