Werder Bremen have bolstered their attack with the signing of Victor Boniface on loan from Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.
The 24-year-old Nigerian striker completed his move on deadline day, with the deal confirmed by SVW’s head of professional football Peter Niemeyer.
Niemeyer welcomed the addition, stressing Boniface’s proven quality at the top level.
“We’re delighted that we’ve been able to complete this loan deal and secure Victor’s services. He has delivered brilliant performances in the Bundesliga and shown the qualities he has at his disposal. We’re certain that he can build on those while here with us,” he said.
Victor Boniface – A powerful addition to Bremen’s frontline
Head coach Horst Steffen echoed those sentiments, pointing to Boniface’s physicality, finishing ability and speed as key assets.
“Victor is incredibly strong physically, is a very good finisher and has good pace. He shone as both a goalscorer and a creator during Bayer’s title-winning season. I’m certain that he can be a huge asset to our group this campaign,” the coach remarked.
Boniface himself expressed his excitement about joining Werder.
“My discussions with the club convinced me to make this move to Werder. I want my performances to contribute to us achieving our aims as a group this season. I’m looking forward to being part of my new team and to my time at Werder.”
Proven goalscorer with European experience
The striker arrives with an impressive record. At Leverkusen, he scored 32 goals in 61 competitive matches, while previously netting 17 times in 51 appearances for Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise.
Before that, he made his name in Norway with Bodø/Glimt, registering 23 goals in 66 games. On the international stage, Victor Boniface has already been capped 13 times by Nigeria.
Werder will now look to the powerful forward to bring firepower and presence in attack as they aim to push higher up the Bundesliga table this season.
