Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked with the signing of sensational Newcastle United’s new target, the Premier League youthful attack maestro, Mohammed Kudus of West Ham United.
The 24-year-old Ghanaian striker has a £90m price tag and an £85m release clause and he has become the Magpies’ main priority as the club attempts to rejuvenate their misfiring attack.
Newcastle United is currently 11th in the Premier League and in front of the goal, only 23 goals – one more than the Wolves that fight for the bottom of the standings.
Manager Eddie Howe wants to solve this problem, but restrictive monetary limitations resulting from the possible Premier League Profit and Sustainability Regulation (PSR) violations are in his way.
The Magpies will have to sell players in January to be able to afford the fee needed for Kudus, as reported by The Mirror.
Newcastle Will Have To Sell Players To Sign Mohammed Kudus
Nonetheless, questions of finances remain: even with departures during the summer of Elliot Anderson (£35m) and Yankuba Minteh (£30m). One famous face that may well be on his way out of St. James’ Park when the winter transfer window reopens is veteran winger Miguel Almirón, now aged 30.
Newcastle has been linked with Kudus for a long time now. Joined FC Nordsjaelland in the season 2012-2013, the club has been following the 24-year-old’s progress ever since.
However, West Ham arrived at the nick of time to lure Kudus from Ajax by offering him a £38 million contract in the 2023 season, where he has proved his worth.
To that end, Eddie Howe is not very optimistic about Newcastle’s chances to make big moves during the January transfer market.
He has admitted that it is an expenses club recently, and therefore, any big deal for Kudus might only be possible if significant income is generated by player sales in the summer of 2025.
Kudus’ signing by Newcastle underlines the club’s desire to become a top team in the Premier League.
However, an interesting task waits for the club and their manager, as getting the Ghanaian international to Newcastle will not be easy on two large accounts – Arsenal and Liverpool, not to mention the financial barriers.
