Barcelona are reportedly plotting a summer move for Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay, with the Scotland international emerging as one of Hansi Flick’s preferred options to bolster the squad’s physical presence in midfield.

The Catalan club are said to be long-term admirers of McTominay’s energy, drive, and goal-scoring threat from deep.

Since joining Napoli from Manchester United in 2024, McTominay has enjoyed a remarkable rise in Italy. The 28-year-old scored 13 goals and provided six assists last season, helping Napoli secure the Serie A title while earning a place in the division’s Team of the Season.

He has continued that form this term, netting four goals and adding an assist in 11 games across all competitions.

Barcelona plan midfield reshuffle ahead of 2026-27 season

According to TEAMtalk, Barcelona have placed McTominay high on their shortlist alongside Aston Villa’s Amadou Onana.

The club see him as a perfect fit to inject steel and athleticism into a midfield currently reliant on the technical brilliance of Frenkie de Jong and Pedri.

Flick reportedly believes McTominay’s ability to transition between attack and defence could add much-needed balance.

Napoli are, however, in no rush to sell. The Scottish star’s contract runs until 2028, and the club are considering extending it to 2030.

Both Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are also monitoring his situation, meaning Barcelona may face stiff competition.

While much depends on Napoli’s valuation, McTominay’s proven record in top European competitions and his adaptability make him an appealing option.

A move to Camp Nou could mark a defining step in his career, offering him the chance to test himself in La Liga while playing a key role in Barcelona’s rebuild.
