Andre Onana Transfer News

Trabzonspor have reportedly expressed a strong desire to sign Andre Onana on a permanent basis following the Manchester United goalkeeper’s impressive start to life in Turkey.

The Cameroonian joined the Super Lig club on loan earlier this season, a deal that included no option or obligation to buy.

However, after a string of standout performances, the Turkish giants are now eager to explore a full transfer once the loan concludes.

According to The Sun, Onana has quickly earned the admiration of head coach Fatih Tekke—not just for his goalkeeping but for his leadership and professionalism off the pitch.

His calm presence, vocal command of the defence, and willingness to adapt have made him an instant favourite within the squad.

The 28-year-old has conceded just twice in his first four appearances, helping Trabzonspor climb to second place in the league.

Salary, Contract, and Manchester United’s Stance

Trabzonspor currently cover Onana’s substantial £120,000-a-week wages, a figure that reportedly surpasses his Old Trafford deal.

This means personal terms are unlikely to be a stumbling block should talks advance. The main question is whether Manchester United will sanction a permanent exit.

United paid £47 million to sign Onana from Inter Milan in 2023, and while they may be open to negotiations, the club will likely seek to recoup a significant portion of that investment.

The goalkeeper’s situation changed dramatically this season after Ruben Amorim’s arrival, with Altay Bayındır preferred as the new first-choice option and Onana’s early-season injury complicating matters further.

A Fresh Start for Andre Onana in Turkey

Since arriving in Trabzon, Onana has appeared rejuvenated both mentally and physically. His decision to live with a small support circle, while his family remains in Manchester, has allowed him to focus entirely on his football.

This disciplined approach appears to be paying off—highlighted by his recent assist from a 60-yard pass against Gaziantep, reminiscent of his days at Inter.

Despite ending last season as United’s Europa League final starter, Onana’s inconsistent pre-season and an error in the League Cup against Grimsby Town saw him lose his place.

That moment reportedly accelerated United’s move for Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens.

Now, with Onana rediscovering his confidence in Turkey, Trabzonspor’s interest in a permanent deal is both timely and logical.

For United, the decision will depend on whether they see a future for him at Old Trafford—or whether it’s time to cash in and let him continue his resurgence elsewhere.
