Emiliano Martinez has shown no signs of frustration after missing out on a deadline-day move to Manchester United, instead sharing a beaming update from Argentina camp.
The Aston Villa goalkeeper had been heavily linked with a late switch, with Unai Emery even admitting the situation was “unclear” just hours before the window closed.
The Villa boss had left Martinez out of the squad for the defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday, sparking rumours that a transfer was imminent.
“It’s one thing we have to fix,” Emery said at the time. “Tomorrow the window is finishing and we are expecting something to improve our squad. One of the circumstances is Emi Martinez, we will see tomorrow.”
Emiliano Martinez stays at Villa as United move collapses
In the end, Manchester United turned their attention elsewhere, completing the £18.2m signing of Belgian keeper Sennes Lammens from Royal Antwerp.
Martinez, despite his desire to make the switch, remained at Villa Park, with the Birmingham club reluctant to lose a key figure so late in the window.
Now on international duty, the World Cup winner took to Instagram to post pictures of himself smiling broadly in Argentina training, captioning them with the single word “Feliz” — Spanish for happy.
It was a clear statement that he is fully focused on the present, even after transfer speculation dominated the summer.
United’s new direction and Villa’s stance
United’s decision to bring in Lammens comes after Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir both failed to firmly establish themselves as first choice. Lammens will compete for the No.1 jersey under Rúben Amorim, though he may be eased in gradually.
As for Villa, they remain committed to keeping Martinez as their defensive leader, with reports indicating he has no interest in pursuing a move to Turkey. For now, his focus is on Argentina — and judging by his smile, he’s more than content.
