Christian Eriksen has been spotted back in familiar surroundings as he trained with Malmo following his release from Manchester United this summer.
The 33-year-old playmaker, currently a free agent, is weighing up his next move after turning down a surprise offer from Championship side Wrexham.
A decorated but mixed United spell
Eriksen joined United in 2022 on a free transfer, adding over 100 appearances in two seasons at Old Trafford. Though not always a guaranteed starter under successive managers, his influence was felt in key moments.
He registered eight goals and 19 assists, playing a part in United’s Carabao Cup triumph in 2023 and their FA Cup win in 2024.
For a player whose career was once in jeopardy after a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, Eriksen’s ability to return to the highest level and help secure silverware for one of Europe’s biggest clubs is a testament to his resilience.
Training at home while options remain open
Footage captured by Swedish journalist Johan Dolck Wall showed Eriksen taking part in sessions with Malmo, the club where he is currently maintaining fitness as he considers his future.
While his next step is uncertain, the midfielder confirmed in June that interest exists from multiple clubs but nothing concrete has emerged.
“Right now, there is nothing. There is interest all around, but there is nothing that I am close to signing,” Eriksen told TV 2 Sport. “My focus will be to play international matches and then have a good summer holiday… you can never say never, but the priority is for me to leave.”
Wrexham is Interested in Christian Eriksen
Wrexham, newly promoted to the Championship after three successive rises under Hollywood ownership, were among the more surprising suitors for Eriksen this summer.
Their ambitious approach was rebuffed, with the Dane instead preferring to wait for opportunities elsewhere.
With his technical class and vision still intact, Eriksen remains an attractive short-term option for clubs needing creativity in midfield.
Whether he chooses to return to Scandinavia, test himself in another European league, or make a final move outside Europe will be a storyline to watch in the coming months.
